Badshapur: Residents of Badhsapur are upset with the painfully slow progress of work on the Rs 33.65 crore drainage sanctioned by the MCG to private contractor Shivprobuilder Pvt Ltd.
Apart from disappointing the residents, the inordinate delay is spelling trouble for the commuters.
"For several years the market has been facing problems because of open drains.
There is no sewer line for the market. All the drains are open. Even after a light slower the whole market gets inundated with drain water since there is no exit point for the water. Though work on the drainage had started a few months ago, it is going on at a snail's pace," said Rakesh Daultabad, a social activist.
Shopkeepers complained that due to the stalled drainage work there is frequent traffic jam. "Customers cannot enter the market and shopkeepers cannot enter our shops. There is an overwhelming stench and the area is infested with mosquitoes and flies," said Hari Kapoor, a trader in the market.
When TOI tried to contact Shivprobuilder Pvt Ltd no one answered the telephone.
Sub-divisional officer Harjeet Khera said, "We had to halt work for a few days after water accumulated in the drainage. Now the water has been drained out and work has resumed. The project time frame is one and a half years and we hope to finish it before the deadline."
